Our district showed remarkable recovery according to nationwide 3-8 grade testing data from researchers at Stanford and Harvard. The testing data for grades 3-8 showed that DUSD schools have not only caught up in math, but have improved beyond pre-pandemic levels. Take time to enjoy and read the article link above.

  • Superintendent's Message Winter

Dear Staff, Happy New Year and Welcome back! I hope you had a joyful and relaxing break. As we are prepared to warmly welcome back our students on Tuesday, I wanted to share a few important reminders to help maintain a safe and healthy environment and keep our schools open and thriving. We will all need to do our part to stop the spread of the virus-now more than ever. DUSD has put multiple measures in place to keep students and staff healthy and safe; however, we believe that the safest place for students is at home at this time, and we are highly recommending that parents consider remote learning as an option. Because we are not authorized at this time to transition to virtual instruction, our schools will continue to remain open. Parents who are interested in enrolling their child in the DUSD Remote Learning Academy should contact their school site to begin the registration process. Parents will be encouraged to test their child by Monday, January 10th. The district will be providing KN95 masks for all staff members. All staff will be COVID-19 tested upon their return to work on Monday January 10th. Please notify your supervisor if you are having any COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Superintendent's Message - Fall 2021

Dear Staff, I want to welcome everyone to the 2021-22 school year! It is going to be an amazing, challenging, and exciting year. At DUSD, we have learned that there is no challenge too great if we work together, and if we value everyone's role and contributions. As we start the school year, we need to place the highest priority on creating a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for our students, our parents/guardians, and for each other. Every staff member has an important part to play in accomplishing this goal. We have all been through an unprecedented experience, and the effects are still with us. We need to take care of our students, and we need to take care of each other. We are not going back to normal; we are going forward to a new reality, where our students will need us more than ever. Be flexible, be ready to adjust, be ready to make changes, be ready to lead the way ... just as you have for the past 16 months. We've got this! Thank you, and have a great school year! Rosalina Rivera

  • Superintendent's Message August - December

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! The start of a new school year is always exciting, and that is especially true this year. We are starting with distance learning, and so for now we will not see our students walking to school, getting dropped off, or exiting from a school bus. Instead, our students are connecting with our teachers and by our support staff. At all of our schools, grade levels, and programs, classes are organized, students are engaged, and the school year is underway. The 2020-21 school year begins under extraordinary circumstances. At DUSD, the essential work of public education continues, and we embrace the challenges. Even as we begin the school year with distance learning, and our students are not yet with us on campus, I want each one of our students to feel special. I want every student to feel special as a direct result of how we engage with them on a day-to-day basis. I want every staff member to be highly proactive in identifying and meeting the needs of our students. Our deepest calling as educators is to help every student that we come into contact with each day to understand the enormous value and potential within them.

  • Superintendent's Message - June

There have been many difficult issues that have arrived with great intensity in the past few months. We have continued to live with COVID 19, and we have been powerfully reminded that civil rights remains an ongoing challenge for our country. I am confident that DUSD as an institution is committed to respecting each and every person regardless of background or circumstances, and I am confident that DUSD will continue to be one family that is united in our commitment to equal treatment and mutual understanding. Right now, at this time in our history, there is an undeniable need to seek out the voices of persons who differ from us in terms of race, gender, religion, orientation, or political views. We have been quarantined for reasons of public health, but we cannot quarantine our minds from the voices of the marginalized, the victims of systemic injustice, the people who hold political views that are different from ours. We need to engage with these voices on the most fundamental level, so that this moment will be truly transformative, and will truly move us - all of us - toward a more just and equitable nation.

  • Retirement Celebration

Dear staff, Many of our colleagues and friends have made the decision to retire this year. Our retirees have given many years of dedicated service to the children and families of the Delano community. Each retiree, in his or her own way, has furthered the cause of public education and helped to shape the character of our District, and therefore each retiree will always be part of our DUSD family. Please be reminded that we will have a live stream drive-thru at the District on Wednesday, June 10, from 10 am to 11 am., to honor and recognize our retirees. There will be a link on the District website that will allow staff and family members to participate in the live stream. A list of retirees - who have notified us as of this date - is provided below. Also, please view the presentation attached. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Delano community, thank you, DUSD retirees, for your distinguished careers and for allowing us to work alongside you in the field of education. We wish you the very best in all your future endeavors. With gratitude, Rosalina Rivera
